Editor:

Thanks again for another on the mark letter Mr. Dial.

I just wonder how many residents know that their property or business within the Ketchikan borough & city boundaries are the collateral used to secure municipal (and all governmental bonds for that matter)? In the event of local bankruptcy your personal property can go to the highest bidder to repay that defaulted bond. Whether fully paid for or not.

So it would behoove the local citizenry to put a stop to this runaway indebtedness.

How to address people voting for bonds and applauding inflated assessments because they are not going to live here long enough to pay for them is another issue.

The local government could be reduced by a huge percentage with no noticeable reduction in service.

People and most especially those calling themselves 'conservative' need to live within a sustainable budget by extension so do governments.

I agree with those who have said that local governments need a performance audit. We would all be shocked at the real return we get for each tax dollar this government spends.

That the city council has made itself irrelevant to the process is disgusting and left Amylon with no supervision or control. They have earned a grade of 'F' which we learned in school means no pass. They should be excluded from running for reelection because of that. Whether their incompetence is a result of laziness, ignorance, selfishness, egotism or whatever the end result impacts this town in a very negative way.

I would recommend an elected city manager but in any case they should be subject to term limitation (as should all public office).

It is long past time for Ketchikan City Manager Amylon to go. It is long past time for his sycophants to leave.

I would also suggest a personal fiscal liability to be leveled against council/assembly members who are profligate with tax revenues.

The damage done to future as well as this generation is not acceptable. This is disgusting but right in line with the recent naming of Alaska as one of the top ten most corrupt states in the union. That Ketchikan has elevated itself to the worst of the worst through inattention or design is most disagreeable. It is time to start doing something to remedy this.

Sincerely,

Douglas J. Thompson.
Lifelong resident.
