(SitNews) Anchorage, AK – Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell, who oversees state elections, reminds Alaskans they have one week left to register to vote in the August 28 Primary election. July 29 is the deadline to register to vote, to update voter registration, or to change political party affiliation for voting in the Primary election.

“Voting is a fundamental American right,” Lt. Gov. Treadwell said. “Protect and exercise your freedom by registering today.”

“Don’t wait to register or make a change to your registration. Changes made after July 29th, including party affiliation changes, will not be effective for the August 28th Primary,” said Elections Director Gail Fenumiai. The party affiliation on a voter’s record on July 29th will determine which political party ballot the voter is eligible to receive and vote during the Primary election.

The Division of Elections regional offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Mat-Su and Nome will be open this coming weekend to assist voters. Offices will open on Saturday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, July 29 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. for voter registration. The Division of Elections also accepts voter registration applications submitted by mail, fax or email.

Voter registration applications are available at any Division of Elections regional office, at municipal clerks’ offices, at the Division of Motor Vehicles and at many public libraries.

Registration applications are also available at the Division of Elections website at www.elections.alaska.gov.
