(SitNews) Prince of Wales Island – Helping Ourselves Prevent Emergencies (HOPE) was recently awarded a Comprehensive Behavioral Health Prevention and Early Intervention Services grant from the State of Alaska Division of Behavioral Health to develop and implement a domestic violence prevention program on Prince of Wales Island.  The grant is for $138,000 per year for up to 3 years, totaling $414,000.  HOPE partnered with the Prince of Wales Health Network to write the grant, and will be working closely with the POW Health Network over the course of the project.

The first year of the project will focus on capacity building, which includes strengthening relationships between HOPE, community members, stakeholders and providers, convening the Interpersonal Violence Subcommittee of the POW Health Network’s Behavioral Health Coalition, conducting strategic planning, gathering additional data and holding focus groups on domestic violence in POW communities, defining desired outcomes, target populations, and prevention strategies, and providing training in domestic violence prevention.  Years 2 and 3 of the project will focus on implementing the Domestic Violence Prevention Program throughout Prince of Wales communities.

HOPE is currently hiring a full-time Domestic Violence Prevention Coordinator to oversee and manage this project.  Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and experience in project or program management.
