July 28, 2008

Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) officials on Friday released the upcoming sailing schedule for service during this coming fall, winter and the spring of 2009, the earliest schedule release in the system's history.

"We're absolutely excited to have the schedule released and available to our traveling customers who've repeatedly asked for earlier schedule postings to help them plan vacations and other trips," said Capt. John Falvey, General Manager, AMHS. "Early schedule releasing is the course we want to keep in the future of AMHS a reliable schedule that's available in a timely manner."

Friday's announcement now allows travel agents and the general public the opportunity to begin online bookings at

Last year, AMHS made its winter schedule available August 15.

"AMHS will continue working very hard to release schedules as early as possible," said Falvey. "We will also try to maintain the current base schedules as much as possible. AMHS and the Marine Transportation Advisory Board understand the need to build reliability back into the system."
