Ketchikan's New Fire Station
By Anna Marie Mestas

Members of the South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank Senator Bert Stedman, Legislative Aide Miles Baker, Representative Kyle Johansen and the Ketchikan Legislative Liason for their efforts to secure State funding for a new fire station.

The South Tongass Service area has grown significantly since the station was built in 1985. Plans for the new station include: handicap accessibility, training facilities, housing for overnight volunteers, drive-thru bays for fire apparatus, larger space for hazardous materials cleaning, a community meeting space and community playground.

Members of the community are always welcome and encouraged to visit the South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department's current station, new station site and/or to become involved in the planning process for the new station.

Thank you Ketchikan for all of your support!
