Saturday

Ketchikan, Alaska - A grant of $1,560,000 to the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities in Ketchikan was announced Friday by Rep. Don Young (R-AK).

According to the announcement, this grant will be used for the Alaska Marine Highway System Headquarter Building Acquisition. These funds are part of funding set aside in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Act - A Legacy for Users bill, signed into law in 2005, specifically as funding for ferry boat systems.

In his oversight of this bill, Congressman Young increased the annual amount for available ferry boat system grants to the State of Alaska from $10 million annually to $15 million annually.
