Independence Day
By Governor Sarah Palin

July 04, 2007
Wednesday

Today we celebrate the 231st birthday of our nation, a time to reflect on America's independence and the courage of our Founding Fathers. Those 56 men joined together in the belief that through an open and free government, our nation would prosper. These are the same ideals that inspire Alaskans today and allow our strong independent spirit to thrive.

We see the dedication and patriotism in our troops who serve and defend us here and abroad. Please take time to remember to thank the veterans within your community, and the brave men and women who are actively serving in our military. Alaska has a special relationship with our military personnel, and we recognize that it is because of their selflessness that we are able to enjoy our freedom and celebrate this day.

This year, my family and I will be celebrating Independence Day in Seward, and watching the annual Mount Marathon race. I look forward to a relaxing and fun day and wish all Alaskans a very happy Fourth. Whether you're out enjoying parades and picnics, or boating and driving with family and friends, I encourage everyone to celebrate the holiday safely.

About: Sarah Palin is the governor of Alaska.
