Energy Security means: Exploitation of Alaskans
by Don Hoff Jr.

Governor Frank Murkowski wants to exploit the Alaska Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) by allowing oil exploitation (exploration) knowing now that it would have adverse effects on the caribou herds, Alaskans that subsist on the caribou and damage the fragile tundra.

The American people and Alaskans want a pristine Alaska for the future of the human race in the world. President Bill Clinton and former Interior Secretary Bruce Babbit has always been against natural resource development in ANWR. Babbitt is correct by saying drilling in the petroleum reserve will disrupt wildlife, spoil untouched lands, and ruin the biological heart of the western Arctic. We are glad that President Clinton and Secretary Babbit are preservationists and have the foresight to protect ANWR for future generations of our children and grand children. It is obvious that Governor Murkowski and President George Bush can care less about the environment, Alaskans and our future except to line their own pockets and oil buddies with oil money. Just greedy people.

The Governor said, developing the petroleum reserve would also add billions of dollars into the United States economy and add hundreds of good-paying jobs. Frank did not mention Alaska nor create jobs for Alaskan residents. The oil belongs to Alaskans and to the people that were here first.

Say no to oil exploration and exploitation of Alaska Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This is my own opinion.
