Jim Van Horn Joins Senator Stedman's Legislative Staff
Former Elkins Aide to be based in Ketchikan

Senator Bert Stedman (R-Sitka) announced Wednesday the addition of Jim Van Horn to his interim legislative staff. Van Horn began work on Monday and will be based in Stedman's Ketchikan office. He is joining existing Stedman aides Miles Baker, Fred Fisher, David Greisen and Jane Kasberg.

Van Horn served as Chief of Staff to Representative Jim Elkins (R-Ketchikan) from 2005 ­ 2006. A 31-year Ketchikan resident, Jim has been elected to both the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly and the Ketchikan City Council. He is a retired US Coast Guard officer and in 1998 he retired from the Alaska Department of Corrections.

"We're very lucky to have Jim", remarked Sen Stedman. "He understands our issues, is well respected in the community and brings a wealth of experience to the job. He'll be a real asset for the entire Senate district."

Van Horn said, "I'm very excited to be working for Senator Stedman. I enjoyed serving the people of District 1 over the past two years in the House and look forward to continuing that work here in Ketchikan. Senator Stedman's position of Leadership in the Senate is a tremendous benefit to our community".

Sen Stedman is Co-Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Senate Resources Committee, and a member of Legislative Budget and Audit Committee. This summer, he will also serve on the Joint Legislative Education Funding Task Force which is tasked with identifying improvements to the state's education funding policies.

Senate District A includes the Southeast communities of Ketchikan, Sitka, Wrangell, Petersburg, Pelican, Elfin Cove, Port Alexander, Saxman, Meyers Chuck, Thorne Bay, Coffman Cove and Hollis.
