Ketchikan Citizens Recognized for Volunteer Service

Ketchikan, Alaska - Fifteen Ketchikan citizens were recently recognized for their volunteer service by Alaska Community Services. The event took place at the Ketchikan Senior Center on Thursday, June 15th.

Special guest, Representative Jim Elkins had the honor of presenting the awards to the 2006 Ketchikan Branch Volunteers. Those receiving awards for their volunteer service in Ketchikan are:

Yvonne Watson - Foster Grandparent Volunteer Award
Juanita Diamond - Senior Companion Volunteer Award
Bertha Hansen - Retired Senior Volunteer Award
Juanita Camilon - Senior Companion Volunteer Award
Joyce Baldwin - Foster grandparent Volunteer Award
Patsy O'Dell - Senior Companion Volunteer Award
Sarajustine Black - Foster grandparent Volunteer Award
Joan Hurliman - Foster grandparent Volunteer Award
Siefried Liepelt - Foster Grandparent Volunteer Award
Cheryl Carpenter - Senior Companion Volunteer Award

Alaska Community Services' Ketchikan Coordinator Gretchen Klein said, "Our volunteers have been volunteering at a variety of sites, mentoring children in the schools and working as senior companions to others around Ketchikan."

Light dessert and refreshments were served.
