Young Votes To Restore Funding For PBS

June 28, 2005
Tuesday

Alaska Congressman Don Young voted in support of the Obey Amendment to restore funding to Public Broadcasting Systems (PBS). This amendment stays cuts to Alaska's public broadcasting that would amount to over $2 million. The Amendment passed by a vote of 284 to 140 last Thursday.

"I am pleased that we were successful in this vote. In a state so vast and spread out that parts cannot receive commercial broadcasts, public broadcasting has become the main means of relaying information. So many Alaskans rely on the PBS; such huge budgetary cuts would have a devastating effect on Alaska. I want to make this clear to my constituents; I intend to continue supporting any legislation which will restore and increase the funding for the PBS," said Congressman Young.
