No injuries in boat fire

Ketchikan, Alaska - Monday afternoon the Ketchikan Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting a boat fire at Thomas Basin. Initial arriving units reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the cabin of a boat.

By-standers' initial efforts to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers were unsuccessful according to a KFD news release.

The vessel "SunToy" was fully involved by the time the first engine arrived at 2:08 pm. By 2:20 pm, the fire was declared under control.

The damage was contained to the vessel. The vessel was a 28 foot live-aboard. There was no one on board at the time of the fire.

No injuries were reported during the fire.

The Ketchikan Fire Department has no dollar estimate for the fire at this time.

Six fire rescue vehicles responded to the incident with 15 KFD personnel. Responding units were on scene until 5:30 pm.

According to the Ketchikan Fire Department, the fire is currently under investigation by investigators. The KFD received the 911 call at 2:02 pm.
