The Proposed Bridge To Gravina
by Don Hoff Jr

This is from an article from the Knoxville, TN Newspaper about the proposed bridge to Gravina Island via Pennock Island. There have been other similar articles from New York, Utah, Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee about the pork barrel spending from U.S. Rep. Don Young and U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens representing representing Alaska.

We don't need to spend $230 million of my Federal Tax dollars on a bridge to No-where in
Ketchikan, Alaska. Just a reminder that Pennock Island is an active Alaskan Native graveyard protected by the Federal Government. Federal Laws protecting our Indian graves from being desecrated by anybody. It would seem that U.S. Rep. Don Young, U.S. Sen.Ted Stevens and U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski think that they are above the laws of the United States. Whom really wants this boondoggle bridge to Gravina Island via Pennock Island anyway? Whom will gain from this bridge? These few people that want the bridge don t care about the common person and that you are going to be in debt up to our ears paying for the bridge and maintenance work
forever.

GOVERNMENT IN ACTION

Alaska is reputed to be the state most laden with congressional overspending (thanks to its powerful U.S. Rep. Don Young and U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens), and an April New York Times dispatch described two proposed, marginally useful bridges for the state that will eventually cost taxpayers more than $2.2 billion. One, almost as big as the Golden Gate bridge, would connect Ketchikan (pop. 7,800) with a 50-resident island and the town s modest airport (and would replace a five-minute ferry boat ride), and the other, a 2-mile-long span, would connect Anchorage, according to the Times, to a port that has a single regular tenant and almost no homes or businesses.

I often wonder who is pulling Young, Stevens and Murkowski strings? Why are they so
determine to ram a $230 million dollar bridge down our throats. We don't really need a ugly bridge. This is my own opinion shared by others around the United States of America.
