(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - Deputy Forest Supervisor Troy Heithecker will serve as Acting Forest Supervisor starting in June. Tongass National Forest Supervisor M. Earl Stewart has accepted a four-month assignment as the USDA Forest Service Director of Engineering in Washington, D.C. He will report for duty on June 3, 2019.

Heithecker has been Deputy Forest Supervisor for the Tongass since January, 2018. Prior to arriving to the Tongass, he has served as national program manager with the Rocky Mountain Research Station and Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.

“I am honored to serve as the Acting Forest Supervisor on the Tongass, and excited to continue supporting our staff and working closely with our diverse group of partners, stakeholders and collaborators,” said Heithecker.

“I’m excited to face new challenges as the Director of Engineering and honored to have been selected to oversee such an important program,” said Stewart, who has been the Tongass Forest Supervisor since April, 2015. “This is an excellent opportunity to coordinate and connect with different levels of the organization, ultimately bringing a broader skillset back to the Tongass when the D.C. assignment is complete.”
