Bar Harbor Parking

Those of us who regularly use the parking area around the VFW hall while we access our boats have noticed recently that parking has become a real issue there. The construction of the new addition to the hospital requires numerous workers, and they all need a place to park. It’s very convenient for them since it’s right across the street from the jobsite.

I know it is free public parking and the workers are certainly within their rights to park there. However, as summer heats up and more people start using their boats, the crunch for parking there will become even more of an issue.

PeaceHealth must be spending millions of dollars for that huge new addition. I wonder if they could spend a few thousand more and provide parking somewhere else for their workers and provide free shuttles back and forth.

I ran into a handicapped individual there recently who noted quite loudly that there is no handicap parking there, and there was no regular parking either. If you don’t get there very early in the day, you can forget about parking there.

I encourage the management of PeaceHealth, Dawson, Schmolck, 1st City Electric, and any of the other contractors that are working on that job to put their heads together and come up with some alternatives. Those of us who have used that parking area for accessing our boats for many years, decades in many cases, just ask for some consideration for the primary historical use of that parking area, at least during the busy summer months.
