Foster Care in Alaska
By Mary Ida Henrikson

I must respond to Matt Jackson's letter. First it must have been devastating to learn that money was the motivation in your foster care. Your letter describing your conclusion is full of emotional pain and confusion.

By now Mr. Duckworth has shown you utility, food, energy costs, property tax, sales tax and entertainment bills helping you understand that MONEY IS NOT THE MOTIVATION. Simply put, you are worth saving, as is every child. You live in a positive environment filled with examples of hope for your future, into which you too are required to invest, or it is not worth much.

Anyway Matt, you are also our future and although a bit off plumb, your questioning and well constructed letter are possible because of the care, love and attention you get and deserve.
