Honoring Our Nation's Fallen Heroes
By Rep. Don Young

Saturday

This country is home to millions of courageous members of the Armed Services, and on this Memorial Day, let us not forget those who have died defending this great Nation. There is a tendency for all of us to just enjoy the three-day weekend without taking a moment to recognize the reason for it.

So many men and women have heroically given the ultimate sacrifice so that you and I may live in freedom. So many families have had to let go of their loved ones, so many towns have lost great citizens, and our nation has lost many courageous souls, so that we may live in democracy.

In this time of war, Memorial Day is especially relevant. Alaska has sacrificed many of its finest in the fight for freedom, and we must remember and honor them all. Our state is home to five major military installations and thousands of heroes. On this holiday weekend, while we enjoy time with our families and friends, let's remember the real reason for the Memorial Day. If you see a service member, thank them for their sacrifices, say a prayer for them and their family, and enjoy your right to do so.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all members our country's Armed Services and thank you to your families. You are the pride of the United States. God bless.

If you see a service member, thank them for their sacrifices, say a prayer for them and their family, and enjoy your right to do so.

Don Young
Congressman for All Alaska
