Will this misguided effort to ban jewelry stores pave the way for more aesthetically challenged outlets for tasteless totem poles and imported Eskimo dolls and Last Frontier shot glasses embellished with Happy Bears? Nothing says ticky-tacky quite like a rack of T-shirts on the sidewalk. The good news is that under the proposed ordinance, these businesses (many local) can and should, for the sake of local sensibilities, close at the end of the tourist season.
