Taxes on oil

I don't know if any readers remember Huey P. Long (deceased) Governor of Louisiana, and later that state's Senator. He started in state government as a member of its railroad commision.

If he hadn't recommended, and caused oil taxes to be passed in that state, Louisiana would not have roads linking cities to towns to villages.

Taxes on oil or any extractive industries are vital to any state's economy. Please don't let BP and Conoco Phillips tell us how much they will pay in taxes. They do want to extract our resources at minimum cost, but lately it seems that it doesn't make any difference what the cost of production is, the oil compaines will charge what the market will bear.

Yours in good government,
