DEC Schedules Three Public Hearings on Klukwan Pesticide Permit

Ketchikan, Alaska - As part of its permit review, the Department of Environmental Conservation is requiring Klukwan, Inc./Long Island Trust to fund three public hearings on its application to aerially spray pesticides over 1,900 to 2,000 acres of its Long Island property for forestry vegetation management purposes.

Maps of the areas to be sprayed, information on the chemicals to be used and how they will be applied will be presented at the public hearing and are available upon request by contacting DEC at 907-269-7644. Comments will be taken in writing and oral comments will be tape recorded. Public comments will be accepted from May 22, 2004 through June 21, 2004 at 5:00 p.m.

Public hearings are scheduled as follows:

June 2, 2004 - 11 AM - 1 PM    Hydaburg, City Municipal Building 8th Street
     
June 2, 2004 -  4 PM - 6 PM    Craig, City Council Chambers 500 3rd Street

June 3, 2004 - 11 AM - 1 PM    Ketchikan, Ted Ferry Civic Center 888 Venetia Avenue
