Run For The Wall

I am now in Salina, Kansas, and have been participating in the Run For The Wall for the past couple of weeks. We are a group of motorcyclists, who are driving from Ontario, California to Washington, DC to bring attention to matters concerning our veterans. We especially want an accounting of all of our POWs and MIAs.

It is amazing to me the amount of support that we have received across this country. People in the small towns, the large cities, on the side of the road, waving from overpasses, in gas stations, are all turning out, and I really mean turning out to welcome us. Truckers talking on the CBs support us even though we are tying up traffic.

People buy us gas, feed us, give us water, etc. The message over and over is how much they support our soldiers, no matter what their service or when it was.

For many Vietnam Veterans, it is the welcome home. The first time I heard someone tell me, "Thank you for your service," I did not know what to say. I guess I still don't.

We are about 500 strong now and heading east. Our group is miles long moving down the road, in the best kind of a formation that some of us can muster! There are all kinds of motorcycles, and some cars and trucks.

We will be in DC for Memorial Day weekend. I have heard that there will be a LOT of people by the time we arrive for Rolling Thunder.

You can see the web page at www.rftw.org but it probably has not been updated since before we left, since everyone is on the run.

I am hoping for dry roads east bound.
