"Mayor Egan provided a warm welcome to the Palin/Parnell Administration when he spoke at our inauguration on December 4, 2006, in Fairbanks," Governor Palin said. "It is a pleasure to return the sentiments as I now welcome him to legislative service." The governor made the announcement at a news conference with Democratic Senators Johnny Ellis and Hollis French. The disagreement over the need for the Democratic caucus to vote in public continues. The Alaska Department of Law maintains that, regardless of legislative tradition, the law requires confirmation of vacancy appointments by vote in open session. "Mayor Egan is a good choice for Juneau," Governor Palin said. "He's pro-business and understands the need for responsible development in order to create jobs in Southeast. I thank Mayor Egan for his willingness to step forward and represent Juneau in the Senate." Egan was mayor of Juneau from 1995 to 2000, after serving 11 years on the assembly. He has had leading roles in the Alaska Conference of Mayors, the Alaska Municipal League, the Juneau Chamber of Commerce, the Alascom Inc. board of directors and Alaska Airlines advisory board, among many entities. Egan fills the seat held since 1999 by Kim Elton, who resigned last month to take a position in the Obama administration. Source of News:
