Thursday

The Alaska Marine Highway System's Alaska Class Ferry project team will hold a public meeting Thursday between 6:30 and 8 p.m. in Sitka.

The meeting will take place in the Harrigan Centennial Hall's Rousseau Room.

The Alaska Class Ferry project calls for the design and construction of the next generation of ferries to begin replacing aging ships currently in the AMHS fleet.

A project team has been organized consisting of AMHS officials, Alaska's Marine Transportation Advisory Board, Elliott Bay Design Group and public involvement specialist Grady and Associates.

"We are soliciting input from individuals and groups regarding the new vessel design and use," said Jim Beedle, Deputy Commissioner of Marine Operations. "The public input will be used by the team to solidify the design of the new Alaska Class Ferry."

The specifically detailed project summary and status report is available online at www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/alaska_class/.
