High Rent
By Dave Jensen

April 30, 2009

There were generations contributing to the cost of housing in Ketchikan. Most people move here to work, or to make money. Some plan to leave with a sack full of cash (retirement). People that grew up here may have the same idea. I say some because there are always those that have no incentive to provide for themselves.

To build your retirement, you must make a return on your investments. That could be where the trouble starts if the guy you buy or rent from bought his building for more than it was worth because the guy he bought it from, paid too much.

The typical scenario follows this trend and continues with a building owner slapping on a coat of paint or a new roof or new carpet. Sometimes it is a cover up, or it may be that they don't know what they should do. I think more often than not, it is,"curb appeal" and "buyer beware".

The fact is,"what goes around comes around".
