Elkins will be missed
By David Hull

On behalf of the membership of the North Tongass Volunteer Fire Department, I want to express my condolences to the family and friends of Jim Elkins. Jim worked hard for the Ketchikan area and particularly hard for this department.

Without Representative Elkin's help, the fire stations would still be shells; little more than big storage sheds for the emergency vehicles. What we have now is the foundation for this fire department to carry it into the coming decades. The high level of emergency response is directly proportional to Jim's willingness to help. I want to thank Representative Johansen for his tribute to Jim in the State Legislature.

Jim was and is an honorary member of the North Tongass Volunteer Fire Department. We will all miss his strength, wit, wisdom and humor. Being around him made us all excited about what we were doing. Now we are on our own. Thanks Jim, we ll take it from here.
