"Suddenly Over the Hill"

I am responding to an article by Dave Kiffer in the April 9, 2006 edition of Sitnews regarding the missionaries he encounted at the grocery store.

Since The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints currently has two female missionaries serving in Ketchikan, I must assume he was talking about them. Since Dave is a self proclaimed "humorist" I am assuming this article was written in jest with a supposed twist toward humor.

However, I think it is important for the reading public to understand something about our missionaries and their conduct. These missionaries function under the direction of a Mission President with a very strict set of standards and guidelines. I cannot think of a single circumstance where these "missionette's (as Dave referred to them) would ever expose a bare midriff. An exposed belly button stud would most assuredly put them on the fast track to the custody of their parents regardless of where they came from around the world. We certainly encourage them to have a smile for everyone and be friendly to all they meet and I would hope this would not be misconstrued as flirting even to one who is "over the hill".

Thank you,

Kirk Thomas

Dave Kiffer: Suddenly Over the Hill - I had a weird experience in the aisles of Safeway recently.

Yes, I know that's not usual, but this was even more disconcerting than the normal, run-of-the-mill run ins with the usual wackos and miscreants that grocery shop after normal hours.

A couple of missionaries, female ones, flirted with me.

Okay, maybe they were just being really friendly. - More....
