North Tongass Community Club
By Tony Yeisley

April 03, 2006
Monday

The North Tongass Community Club Inc., is holding its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 12th at 6 pm. We would like to encourage our current members to come join us for this meeting as we are getting closer to having the club ready to open to the public. The monthly membership meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.

We are also going to be forming our nominee committee as officer elections are coming up. In order to vote on officers you must be a member in good standing and come to at least 2/3 of the meetings for the calendar year.

We would really like to encourage our current members to please come and participate in the monthly meetings. On an average they run about 30-60 minutes. In these meetings we discuss what members would like to see happen with the remodel of the club as well as make decisions about anything needed for the club.

We are always looking for persons interested in becoming a member. Individual membership is $20 per person or you can get a family membership for $40 which would cover a two parent household and their children under 18.

The North Tongass Community Club has not been in operation since approximately 1995. Many events take place in the Ketchikan Community and the North Tongass Community Club would like to offer the rental of the club to its members. In the past some events that the club was used for were Cub Scout Events, Girl Scout Events, wedding receptions, awards banquets, family reunions, potlucks, garage sales and more.

I believe it is important for those of us who have grown up in Ketchikan to become members of the club so our families and children can enjoy the benefits of having a rental club out north of town. Refuge Cove beach is right there and you can enjoy the benefits of the outdoors with a good place to have an indoor function as well. I would really like to see more people become involved and join us in keeping this historic building and club functioning.

Again, it is our goal to re-open the North Tongass Community Club in May of 2006 so our members have available rental facilities north of town. If you are interested in volunteering your time to assist in the restoration or if you are interested in becoming a member you can contact Tony Yeisley at 247-3211 or Theresa Hamilton at 247-7285.

Sincerely,

Tony Yeisley
President
