Youth Sports

Ketchikan Dribblers League just finished up their 2006-07 season and I would like to publicly thank ALL OF THE PEOPLE in Ketchikan who volunteer to coach, manage, referee or help out in so many other ways to support our kids in youth sports here in Ketchikan.

Our son's coach this year was Danny Smith. Danny went above and beyond what is required of a coach. He continually offered rides to/from games and practices - even if it meant driving out south or north to pick up or take home one of his players. He didn't want a kid to have to miss a game or practice due to a parent's inability to transport their child.

Last night, Danny sponsored a pizza party for the kids on his team. He personally purchased special trophys for each and every kid on the team and spoke about each player telling them (and their parents) what made each one of them special and told each child what he especially appreciated about them. It was really cool to see these kids being publicly praised by their coach in front of their peers and family.

I'd also like to thank all of the businesses and organizations that financially support youth sports in Ketchikan. Without you, none of this would be possible.

Next up is baseball - and another great coach for our son, Lester Silva. Adults in Ketchikan giving their time, talents (and sometimes so much more) to make our kids better citizens for having been led and taught by such individuals.

With graditute,

Kelli Carlin-Auger
