The United Fishermen of Alaska (UFA) Board of Directors has elected Doug Mecum as its second UFA "EXECUTIVE MAN OF THE YEAR."

"We believe that Doug Mecum is the most qualified scientific resources manager in a leadership role in the Department of Fish and Game," said UFA president Bob Thorstenson, Jr.

UFA President Thorstenson and Vice President Joe Childers nominated six non-elected public officials that made substantial efforts and accomplishments in the past year for the benefit of Alaska Commercial fishermen. Those nominated included DCED Commissioner Edgar Blatchford, Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner Greg O'Claray, ADF&G Biologist Denby Lloyd, Governor's Chief of Staff Jim Clark, Alaska Farm Service Agency Director Chad Padgett, and ADF&G Commercial Fisheries Director Doug Mecum.

Voting was conducted by the UFA Board of Directors at its recent meeting in Juneau. United Fishermen of Alaska is a statewide organization representing thirty-one Alaska commercial fishing groups, as well as individual, business, and crew members.
