Re: Trading bureaucrats for workers
by Dave Kiffer

March 10, 2004

If the Marine Highway System goes ahead with its plans to mothball the Taku, then the movement of the ferry system headquarters to Ketchikan will be a wash jobwise for the community because we would likely lose a similar number of ferry workers. Ketchikan can't afford more to lose 40 more well-paying year round jobs. That makes it even more essential to relocate the administrative jobs here. After all, bureaucrats - and their families - purchase homes, pay taxes, buy groceries and help support year-round activities, too.
