Assessment Roll Released

(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - The Ketchikan Borough Assessor’s Office announced Wednesday that Assessment Notices for the 2014 tax year were mailed on February 5th.  Due to the recent loss of mail processing equipment at the local post office, the 2014 notices were mailed directly from the Juneau Post Office for speedier processing.  The notices should begin arriving within the next few days.

For 2014, the Department issued Assessment Notices for 6,931 parcels of real property.  During 2013, in preparation for the 2014 tax roll, the Department focused on residential land and building valuations in the North Tongass, City of Ketchikan, South Tongass, Pennock and Gravina Islands areas.

Property Owners with questions or concerns about their new valuations may contact the Borough Assessor’s Office at 907-228-6653 or visit the Assessor’s Office at 1900 First Avenue, Ste. 219 in the White Cliff Building.  The 2014 valuations are also searchable using the Borough’s “Real Property Search” application which can be found on the Borough website at www.kgbak.us.

A thirty day review period is provided for Property Owners to discuss any concerns about the 2014 valuations with Department staff.   If sufficient evidence is obtained by the Department during the review period, the valuation can be modified by the Department.  Evidence may include such items as appraisals or listings of the property, sales of the property or properties comparable to it, engineering reports or inspections of the property by Department staff.
