New Aide Joins Stedman Staff

(SitNews) - Senator Bert Stedman (R-Sitka) announced his staff for the 2011 legislative session. New hire Kimberly VanWyhe joins existing staff members Miles Baker, Darwin Peterson, Weston Eiler, and Julie Isom.

Kimberly VanWyhe was born in Fairbanks, Alaska. Prior to her joining the staff, she interned for Congressman Don Young and tracked Alaska issues for several advocacy groups in Washington D.C.  She also worked on political campaigns for both Senator Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski.

“I’m happy to welcome Kim to Juneau,” remarked Senator Stedman. “She’s a bright young professional with a solid political background that will be a great addition to our staff.”

This session Senator Stedman serves as Co-Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.  He will also serve as Vice-Chair of the Legislative Budget & Audit Committee, and hold seats on the Resources Committee, Rules Committee, Legislative Council, and continues as Vice-Chair of the Alaska Northern Waters Task Force.

Senate District A includes the Southeast communities of Ketchikan, Sitka, Wrangell, Petersburg, Pelican, Elfin Cove, Port Alexander, Saxman, Meyers Chuck, Thorne Bay, Coffman Cove and Hollis.  

STAFF BIOGRAPHIES

Miles Baker – Chief of Staff & Finance Aide

Miles Baker is a former Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, and graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and UCLA’s Anderson School of Business. Prior to joining Senator Stedman’s staff in 2003, he worked as a marketing and business development executive in the media and entertainment industry. Miles serves as Chief of Staff and handles appropriations for the Senate Finance Committee.

Darwin Peterson – Legislative Aide & Finance Aide

Darwin Peterson brings extensive finance and budgeting experience to the office previously working as a staffer for Governor Frank Murkowski and Senator Ted Stevens. Darwin attended the University of Alaska Anchorage and handles legislation for the Senate Finance Committee.

Weston Eiler – Legislative Aide

Weston Eiler was born and raised in Southeast Alaska. Before joining Senator Stedman’s staff in 2008 he attended Willamette University and directed small-ship cruises in Alaska for Cruise West. Weston staffs the Senate Resources Committee, and budget and legislative issues affecting Southeast.

Julie Isom – Legislative Aide

Julie Isom joined Senator Stedman’s staff in 2007 and manages the Ketchikan office. Originally from Prince of Wales Island, she previously worked for Southeast Island School District and served as mayor of the city of Thorne Bay.

Kimberly VanWyhe – Legislative Aide

Kimberly VanWyhe was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. She attended St. John’s University in New York studying Government and Politics. Kimberly interned for Congressman Don Young, and worked on the Senate campaigns for Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski.
