Poor Herring Stocks
By John Arthur

This is in response to Larry Demmert's Letter to the Editor. You can sure tell Mr. Demmert knows "nothing" about healthy herring stocks. Maybe he should come to Sitka and visit the Pioneer Home and senior centers and learn all about "Healthy Herring Stocks" here in Sitka.

When the stocks where healthy and the herring spawned the roe would be over 12' deep on the beaches as far as one could see in all directions. When was the last time this happened??? What happened to Lynn Canal, Hoonah, Ketchikan, Auke Bay, Kake, Prince Williams Sound?? It's called "Over Harvest" and you can not blame that on charter fishermen or subsistence use.

When will ADF&G wake-up? Hopefully before it's too late and our resource is completely destroyed due to "Commercial Over Harvest".

If the herring stocks are so healthy why do all the Petersburg boats come to Sitka??
