COAST GUARD SEARCHES FOR TWO UNREPORTED MARINERS

Ketchikan, Alaska - The Coast Guard announced this afternoon that a serch in underway for two unreported mariners who were transiting from Juneau to Ketchikan and have not been heard from since Wednesday.

Mike Dunn and Vern McGee left Juneau Wednesday morning aboard Dunn's 35-foot converted wooden trooler the Transition.  Dunn's wife contacted the Coast Guard Friday night after not hearing from the two men since their departure.

The Coast Guard launched a rescue helicopter from Air Station Sitka Saturday morning to search the area the mariners were transiting. Another rescue helicopter will be launching Saturday evening in the search effort. The Coast Guard Cutter Anacapa, homeported  in Petersberg, is also helping in the search. Two civil aircrafts are also participating in the search.
