Fire safety

In response to several letters recently about the importance of smoke detectors, I would like to make several additional suggestions for fire safety. These are easy and inexpensive and once you've got them, you don't even have to change the batteries - ever.

1) An escape ladder for a bedroom windows more then a few feet off the ground.

2) A hammer or bludgeon to break a window if need be.

3) A heavy towel or cloth to cover the broken glass.

None of these items are expensive (my last ladder was $30 w/shipping on Ebay) and they can all store together in a tub under the bed.
