Trash in Ketchikan

Dear Sitnews:

Boy, do I agree with Officer Cegelske! Too bad he can't station cameras in several key locations to catch even more litterbugs.

As I have already mentioned in a previous opinion here, there must be a lot of folks in Ketchikan who could care less, have absolutely no civic pride in our town, who love to see trash on the streets, in the bike path, in the ditches, woods and trails and dumped in all kinds of public places. In addition, there are even a lot of homes with yards piled and littered with trash! (Must be the same people)

I, for one, am tired of it. I pick it up and pick it up but more continues to show up. Candy wrappers, junk food wrappers, empty cigarette packs, pop and beer bottles, broken glass, take out boxes, construction materials.....you name it and it's everywhere you walk or drive.

I hope Officer Cegelske hands out lots of tickets and I hope that the court enforces those tickets because there is no excuse for this slovenly behavior. It is pretty darn easy to go to the dump if you don't want to pay for garbage pickup, or have a truckload to dispose of. The attendant even gives my dog a cookie each time we go there. So, come on, folks, let's clean up Ketchikan and cure this bad habit of tossing trash everywhere but where it belongs.
