(SitNews) - Ketchikan resident Eileen Small, a mother of five, and a grandmother who has written as a hobby most of her life, has published her first book along with co-author Janette Slavens.

Guardian of Butterflies is a book about real life, and how often events don’t happen as planned. It’s a moving story about a woman, with the help of her friends, pulling together all the broken pieces of her life to make it whole once more. It will touch your heart and make you want to sit down and read it in one session.

In the early years of her marriage, Linda, the book's main character, believed she would live the American Dream. She was a wife, a mother, and a nurse in labor and delivery. She and her husband had a daughter they both adored. When a series of tragic events destroys everything she once believed in, every facet of her life implodes in on her. Linda is left standing alone in the rubble, desperately trying to get through each day—wishing her own life would finally end. A simple act of charity sets events into motion that will restore her destroyed life and help her create a life worth living and enjoying once again.

The book is published by FriesenPress. The book is available for purchase in Barnes and Noble, Waldenbooks, and Amazon and Kindle in e-book format. It is also available for download with iBooks from Apple's iTunes.

Author Eileen Small worked 30 years in the field of women’s health care, first as a Labor and Delivery nurse and then as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Midwife. She has worked in many states including Maine, Texas, California and Alaska—which was one of her most difficult experiences, due to float plane travel and distance as well as the native culture. She has cared for thousands of women withvaried problems and issues. She long ago realized that every woman and situation has its own underlying story. She and her husband currently reside in Alaska with her Miniature Dachshund, Fang.

Co-Author Janette Slavens is a wife, mother, and grandmother. Her career has included technical writing, marketing, and production management. She has lived and worked in various European countries, including Germany and Italy, as well as numerous states in the USA. Janette is currently retired. She and her husband enjoy living on a lake in the hills of Eastern Oklahoma with their 2 rescued Chihuahua’s and a crazy Maine-Coon cat named Okra.
