The Alaska State Troopers ask that citizens continue doing their part in keeping Alasak's roadways safe by not driving impaired.

Additionally, Troopers ask that citizens don’t hesitate to make a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) report any time of the year by calling 911 to report any signs of dangerous driving. Troopers request that you first stop at a safe place or have a passenger make the call, and report the vehicle along with its description and location. The driver may be ill or intoxicated and perhaps shouldn't be on the road. State and local law enforcement agencies will respond as quickly as possible.

CALL 911 when you believe there is a risk of death or injury due to dangerous driver behavior. DO NOT call 911 for minor behaviors that do not appear to cause confusion or risk of death or injury.

Dangerous drivers risk death and injury not only to themselves, but to other innocent people both in their vehicle or in other vehicles on the road. Reckless, intimidating aggressive behavior are some examples. Drunk, drugged, fatigued driving are others. This becomes a problem when the dangerous driver illustrates signs of worsening control, which can put the lives of other people at risk.

Signs of dangerous driving may include:

  • weaving in and out of lanes
  • driving with windows rolled down in cold weather
  • passing on curves and double yellow lines
  • straddling the center line
  • making wide or high speed turns out of assigned lanes
  • driving so slowly as to impede other traffic under current conditions
  • tailgating

For this High Visibility Enforcement effort troopers conducted the following investigations from Dec. 10 through Jan. 4, 2015:

  • 74 misdemeanor DUI arrests, 6 felony DUI Arrests
  • 80 drivers charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license.
  • 449 REDDIs reported with 55 drivers contacted and ultimately determined not to be DUI
  • 195 damage only crashes 36 injury crashes and 0 fatal collision were investigated by troopers
  • Of the 1687 citations issued, 645 were issued for speeding and 50 issued for seatbelt or other occupant restraint violations

Funding for this High Visibility Enforcement Campaign was funded by grants distributed by the Alaska Highway Safety Office.
