Editor,

While any and all dialogue from community members is appreciated regarding funding of our local educational system, the recent letter submitted by A.M. Johnson is incorrect in one area: "The issue: The Ketchikan Gateway Borough School board has convinced the Gateway Borough to file a law suit against the State to obtain funding that according to the suit, is guaranteed under the Alaska Constitution."

The Ketchikan Gateway Board of Education is not the entity that has spearheaded the impending lawsuit against the State of Alaska, nor did we "convince" the Borough to investigate litigation. This action has been led by the Borough.

While the Ketchikan Board of Education has not officially taken action in support or against this action by the Borough, it is our goal to work cooperatively with the Borough to ensure the best and most prudent possible funding mechanisms for our students' continued success.

Respectfully,

Michelle O'Brien
President
