Public Invited to Meet UAS Ketchikan
Campus Director Candidates

(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - The University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan Campus Director Search Committee has invited three candidates to Ketchikan. The public is invited to meet the candidates and offer their written opinions and recommendations to the Search Committee following each of the three community presentations by the candidates.  

The presentations will be held at the UASK Campus Library, located at 2600 Seventh Avenue, on the following days and times:

Thursday, February 14, 12:00 PM – Dr. Cathy Anderson, Ph.D.
Thursday, February 28, 12:00 PM – Dr. Voytek Panas, Ph.D.
Thursday, March 7, 12:00 PM – Dr. John Garmon, Ph.D.

Each candidate will discuss a current topic in higher education and answer questions from the participants. The presentations will be an informal setting and will give the community the opportunity to meet and interact with each candidate.

Dr. Cathy Anderson previously served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Western Dakota Technical Institute, an institution of higher education that provides Associates of Applied Science in fields such as diesel, welding, nursing, medical assisting, pharmacy tech, surgical technician and automotive technology. WDTI is one of four technical institutes in the State of South Dakota, which operates under the governance of the South Dakota Board of Education and the Rapid City Area School District.

As a Campus Director at Pima Medical Institute (PMI), in Albuquerque, NM, Dr. Voytek Panas managed faculty and administrative staff and a campus of 800 students in allied health and nursing degree programs. The students at Pima were from diverse academic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and often disadvantaged demographics.

Dr. John Garmon is currently employed as the Editor, Elected Board Member, and Education Consultant for Native West Press in Prescott, AZ.  From 2008-09, he served as Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, for Dhofar University in the Sultanate of Oman. Dr. Garmon is also a published poet with many national publications to his credit, including Southern Poetry Review, Southern Humanities Review, Ploughshares, Midwest Quarterly Review, New Mexico Humanities Review, and The Prairie Schooner.
