Man pulls gun on off-duty trooper

(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - Officers responded Monday afternoon to Tongass Trading Marine Store due to a report of an off-duty Alaska State Trooper in contact with a man who had a gun. When Ketchikan Police officers arrived, it was found that the off-duty Trooper James Kimura had made contact with 25 year old Steven K. Doran and had advised him that he had outstanding arrest warrants.

During the State Troopers attempt to take Doran into custody, Doran pulled a handgun out of his waistband. A scuffle ensued and both individuals went to the ground. A store employee was able to secure the gun and get it away from Doran. The firearm was found to be loaded with a round in the chamber.

Doran of Ketchikan was arrested and charged with Third Degree Assault (on Peace Officer), Third Degree Misconduct Involving Weapons, Fifth Degree Misconduct Involving Weapons, Resisting or Interfering with Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, and two counts of Fifth Degree Misconduct Involving A Controlled Substance.

During the booking process, Ketchikan Police officers also found Doran to have drugs in his possession. He was booked and held without bail at the Ketchikan Correctional.
