First baby born in Sitka in 2010

Sitka, Alaska - Kaelyn Hallin Olsen was the first baby of 2010 born at the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka.

Kaelyn was born at 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010. Her parents are Holly and Jeffrey Olsen of Sitka. Kaelyn weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and she was 20 inches long at birth. Kaelyn was delivered by Dr. Grace Hwang of SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital.

Holly and Jeffrey Olsen hold Kaelyn Hallin Olsen, the first baby born in Sitka in 2010, as SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital Administrator Norma J. Perkins presents the family with dozens of special gifts provided by Sitka merchants. Kaelyn was born at 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 20 inches long. She was delivered by Dr. Grace Hwang of SEARHC. Kaelyn's grandparents are Pam and Carl Samuelson of Sitka and Knud and Shirley Olsen of Seattle.

Kaelyn is her parents' first child. Her grandparents are Pam and Carl Samuelson of Sitka and Shirley and Knud Olsen of Seattle.

As the first baby of the new year born at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, Kaelyn and her parents received several special gifts from local businesses. The donated gifts included a variety of baby supplies and numerous gift certificates. The gifts were presented to the family by Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital Administrator Norma J. Perkins.

The gifts were donated by ALPS Federal Credit Union, Airport Gift Shop, SeaMart, AC Lakeside Grocery, Alaska Basket Shop, Pizza Express, Aurora Business Supplies, Rain Country, Harry Race, Brenner's, Ben Franklin, Karmen's Hair Care, Kettleson Memorial Library, Russell's, Theobroma Chocolate Co., Colliver's Shoes, Bev's Flowers, Chocolate Moose, Stereo North, Salon 264, Westmark Hotel, New Start Aquarium and Birds, Sitka Lutheran Church, Agave Restaurant, Subway, Old Harbor Books, Hair Loft, The Beauty Shop, Mountain Miss, ReFresh, The Party Ranch, Visions Framing and Art Supplies, Fairweather Prints, Kamala Jennings, McDonald's, Home Plus, SEARHC Injury Prevention and SEARHC Administration.
