KPU Sale
By John A. Beck

Wednesday

I am responding to the letter by Mr. Edwardson. The sale of KPU Telephone is a much discussed item around our breakroom table. My personal view, and I have stated this in front of the City Council, is how can a resident of the City vote on a sale if the price and the buyer is not disclosed. Let me sell your house but the price will surprize you. The whole thing stinks.

The sale may be a good thing for me personally depending on the buyer. The sale may be a disaster to me personally depending on the buyer. Likewise it may be a disaster to Ketchikan depening on the buyer. If the right buyer was in place I would support the sale of KPU 100%. The problem is what I have now is better than the unknown and I would think that would also go for the owners of this utility which are the residents of the City of Ketchikan. The revenue from KPU Telephone supports many operations in the City and the residents better think about how that is going to be replacesd. Hey I know!!!! Let's increase the rates and the mil rate. BINGO
