To the citizens of Ketchikan

Stephen Freeman, "Butch" as we called him was my younger brother.

I write to you with heartfelt thanks for the support and love you have shown to my brother and our family.

Butch died the way he lived - thinking of others. We grew up in a small town in rural east Texas (Huntsville). Some of my earliest memories are of Butch, my older brother Bryan, and me playing outdoors. Butch always found a way to make sure we all had an equal amount of toys and he always wanted to do whatever his older brothers preferred. As an adolescent and young adult he consistently exhibited love for others by his generosity and his sincere interest in people. I can honestly say he has more friends from all walks of life than any person I have ever known. About seven years ago he married the love of his life, Sherry. They have two precious gifts from God, Hannah (age 3) and Steven Nicholas (age 1). He was a dedicated husband and great father. We are all better off to have had him in our midst, and we are grateful you have recognized his heroic deeds that unfolded over your city on January 25th.

With Loving Thanks,

T. Ernest Freeman
