2006 Blueberry Arts Festival contest results

Ketchikan, Alaska - It was a time for celebrating summer and blueberries at the annual Blueberry Arts Festival held in Ketchikan over the weekend. According to the Ketchikan Area Arts & Humanities Council, the event is attended by thousands including locals and visitors.

The annual event features local and visiting artists, community organizations, gourmet food and blueberry delicacies, games, and performing and visual arts. Among the traditional activities are the Blueberry Juried Arts Show, the Fun Run, a Slug Race, a Trivia Contest, a Spelling Bee, a Blueberry Pie Eating contest, Battle of the Bands and Best Blueberry Dish Contest.

1st place: That Lumpy Thing, Phase I, by Lizzio Fennario; with help from Sara Lawson, Carla Potter, and Aairyn Kennoyer (art quilt- "odd bits of fabric and shiny things") - $150 cash and $100 gift certificate to Tongass Business Center's art supply room

2nd place: Colorful Blue, by Maida Kelley-Marksheffel (watercolor- Blue Heron) - $125 cash and $75 gift certificate to the Frame Shop at Exploration Gallery

3rd place: Peril Strait, by Mary Ida Henrikson (oil on canvas, luminescence glaze- Trapper rowing across strait)) - $100 cash and $50 to Tatsuda's IGA

Honorable Mention: Resting by Caren Cooke (Charcoal pencil drawing, woman resting on piano bench)
