Contract Awarded for South Tongass Highway Rehabilitation

Ketchikan, Alaska - It was announced today by the Office of Representative Jim Elkins that they have been advised by the Department of Transportation's Southeast Regional Office that a contract has been awarded to SEACON for stage 1 of the South Tongass Highway Rehabilitation project.

The $8,679,095 contract was awarded on July 19, 2006 to the Juneau based company and consists of widening, alignment and drainage improvements, roadway reconstruction and repaving of South Tongass Highway from Surf Street to approximately 1/4 mile before Mountain Point.

According to Elkin's legislative aide Jim Van Horn, at a pre-construction conference held on July 27, 2006, the contractor does not anticipate the project work beginning before August 15, 2006. The contract calls for a completion date of September 30, 2007.
