According to South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department Chief Scott Davis, the two biggest factors in receiving the improved rating were the recent expansions to the water distribution system and the increased pumping capacity of the fire departments newest equipment. He thanked the Mayor, Assembly, and the South Tongass Service Area Board for their strong support of those recent improvements as well as the current project for constructing a new 800,000 gallon water storage tank. Chief Davis anticipates the increased capacity and available pressure, along with additional improvements the fire department will be working on, will led to lowering the ISO classification even more in the future. He also thanked the members of the South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary for all of their hard work in preparation for the ISO survey. ISO classifications are used by many insurers for underwriting and calculating premiums for residential, commercial and industrial properties.
