Public Comment Period Extended
30 Days For Kensington DSEIS
March 16, 2004
Tuesday - 1:00 am
The Tongass Forest Supervisor, Forrest Cole, has decided to extend
the public comment period on the Kensington Gold Draft Supplemental
Environmental Impact Statement, or DSEIS, until April 7, 2004.
This additional 30 days for public comment will enable cooperating
and reviewing agencies as well as the public additional time
to review the project.
The Kensington Gold mine area
is located approximately 45 miles northwest of Juneau, Alaska.
Issues analyzed in the DSEIS included effects on marine and fresh
water resources, air quality, wetlands, recreation and visual
resources. The document considers the No Action Alternative,
the Proposed Action and two other alternatives developed based
on public and agency comments.
Public meetings were held in
Juneau and Haines on Feb. 24 and Feb. 26.
